FSU's Robert K. Godfrey Herbarium Announces Digitization Blitz, Saturday March 28th
Transcription Blitz for the FSU Herbarium!
FSU's Robert K. Godfrey Herbarium is seeking participants for a transcription blitz on Saturday, March 28, from 8–noon. The goal is to transcribe the labels of 2000 plant specimens using the online site Notes from Nature (www.notesfromnature.org), and those who participate for the full time will receive a reusable lunch bag with the event logo on it. To keep things interesting, there will be a different game each hour—habitat bingo, transcription time traveler, botanical explorer, and morpho bingo—with small prizes for winners and a native plant raffle at the end. There will be a simultaneous transcription blitz at the neighboring Valdosta State University Herbarium, and a live feed will connect the two events. Participants need not have any previous experience with plant specimens, but typing skills will be useful. The event will take place in King 1058, and snacks and drinks will be provided during a mid-morning outdoor break. If interested, please register at https://idigbio.doodle.com/hxwxsdi89tuwt7du. Registration is important so that we can send you last-minute logistical information (e.g., regarding parking, which should not be a problem that weekend). The event is made possible by the generous contributors to the herbarium's crowdfunding campaign last December (http://spark.fsu.edu/Projects/121/Blazing-a-New-Trail-for-Sustainability-with-Citizen-Science). The event is organized by Austin Mast (email@example.com) and Libby Ellwood as part of iDigBio (www.idigbio.org) and the Southeastern Regional Network of Expertise and Collections (http://sernec.appstate.edu/). Thanks for considering this!
